Time to finally relax and celebrate that I didn't explode any of their brains from information overload. Such a young, talented group... look forward to seeing the awesome on-air and YouTube content these makers produce!!

Above are several rough drawings I added to my boss' dry erase idea wall over the summer. Working with dry erase markers can be really difficult and frustrating, and my dry erase marker color set was very limited. But, it was a great exercise in zen art... draw it and let it go, knowing that it could disappear at any time.

My Promotion Announcement

Just a quick note to let my family and friends know that I was recently promoted to Supervising Producer/Writer at Cartoon Network and Tooncast. Here is the humorous promotion announcement sent by my crazy boss, Damon Pittman:

"Hello, I would like to let you know that Aaron Weiler has been promoted to Supervising Producer. Aaron started in 1979 as Ted Turner’s chauffeur and bodyguard. From there he bribed and blackmailed his way up the ladder. It should also be noted that his tremendous skills as a director, editor, writer producer, designer, and mentor also played an important part - a small part. It was mostly intimidation. ;] Anyway, Aaron is one of our most talented team members and, thanks to his elite martial arts training, will be a tremendous help in “encouraging” fellow producers to meet their deadlines. Cheers Aaron, well done!"

She began her writing career as a columnist and feature writer and later established her own company, publishing two print magazines (The COLLECTOR and Gourmet Fare). Diana is a member of the Authors Guild and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. She lives in Johns Creek, Georgia, with her husband Anthony.

Sharing Projects In Final Cut Pro X Via Dropbox

I recently began looking for an easy method of sharing and collaborating on Final Cut Pro X projects via my Dropbox account. Then, I stumbled across a recent Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group (LAFCPUG) meeting video where Ripple Training's, Steve Martin, presented one method of sharing a copy of his FCP X project with a co-editor in another city using... you guessed it... Dropbox. Now, I've used Dropbox for monitoring the status of After Effects renders and transferring and sharing files, but I wasn't completely sure you could share a FCP X project without crashing the app or corrupting the database.

Steve goes into more detail on his workflow in the video below. He also covers the potential pitfalls if you fail to create a copy of your project or fail to close FCP X before sharing your file. The only thing I would try to change in his workflow, especially since we're only working in a Mac environment, is to create a Symlink to the actual copied project folder rather than going through all the steps of copying and pasting files each time. Of course, your co-editor would need to have all of the same media in their event library before collaborating. Steve goes on to demonstrate how to create and use a sparse bundle disk image as a means of sharing the entire event media library and projects in one file, which is an incredibly brilliant idea! However, I'm afraid my 100GB Dropbox account, or my Comcast internet connection for that matter, wouldn't be up for the challenge. Anyway, time to test all this out...

 

Governor Deal Signs Georgia House Bill 1027

State adopts amendments to Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act

ATLANTA, May 2, 2012 - Today, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 1027, a bill amending several elements of the 2008 Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act. Amendments to the previous legislation include increasing marketing value for the state through legislated logo placement and establishing a cap on interactive entertainment projects. These amendments will take effect January 1.

"Since the adoption of the current tax incentive program the economic impact of the entertainment industry has increased more than 1,000 percent," said Deal. "This 30 percent tax credit is essential to the continued growth of the industry, and I will fight to make sure it stays in place for as long as I am governor."

The 2008 Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act helped the state's entertainment industry achieve record numbers. Georgia is now among the top five states in the nation for film and TV production with more than 336 productions shot in Georgia from July 2010 through June 2011, bringing more than $683.5 million in investment in Georgia. These projects have generated an economic impact of $2.4 billion.

"In addition to the direct spend of film and television projects, Georgia has experienced a tremendous growth in infrastructure and support services in the last five years," stated GDEcD Commissioner Chris Cummiskey. "It is important to note the companies who expanded or relocated to Georgia are not eligible for the film tax credit - they are here due to the unprecedented level of business."

The Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act provides an income tax credit of 20 percent to qualified productions, and an additional 10 percent tax credit to productions that embed a Georgia promotional logo in the titles or credits, or as product placement within the content of the production. The tax credits may be awarded not only to traditional feature films, television series, commercials and music videos, but also to innovative new industries such as video game development and animation.
